In speaking of how the Immortal God has designed mortal man, Solomon says that God has “set eternity in their heart.” (Ecclesiastes 3:11, LSB) As this man in this passage was listening to the Father of Eternity (Isaiah 9:6) speak of the eternal things of God, eternity was stirring in his heart. So, he asked the most important question a mortal can ask.
